Eucalyptus oil, one of the export commodities of natural essential oils, plays an important role in industry. Eucalyptus oil can be used in food industry, personal care industry and pharmaceutical industry, also can be used as cough syrup, gum sugar, gargle, toothpaste, air cleaner, and other products.

In the first quarter of 2019, the export value of eucalyptus oil reached 72 million us dollars, and the export quantity was about 3,100 tons, ranking the first quarter in the export of plant extracts. From 2008 to 2017, the overall export price of eucalyptus oil showed a trend of steady rise, and only from 2011 to 2014, it fell back, while the export volume remained at a relatively stable level.

From the perspective of market region, the demand of APAC market is strong, and taken half of the total export volume of eucalyptus oil. In the first quarter of 2019, China's exports of eucalyptus oil to APAC were 38.58 million us dollars, up 229.52% year on year. Exports to the EU stood at $15.84 million, up 79.06 percent year-on-year.

Viewing 2013-2017 eucalyptus oil export market situation, in the past five years, Indonesia has been the top destination of eucalyptus oil export. However, Indonesia is not an end-consumer market. In recent years, China's exports of eucalyptus oil to the United States have increased significantly, and the United States has occupied the position of the second largest export target market since 2015.

Yunnan, Sichuan, Guangdong and Jiangsu have been major exporters of eucalyptus oil. All those provinces showed strong growth momentum in the first quarter of this year.
